From Sardin Run to Karaoke | Moalboal

Aktualisiert: 22. Jan. 2023

After Cebu I made my way down the west coast of Cebu Island to Moalboal by Van and Tricycle (3h, P200).

After I arrived there at Hangover Hostel I got already invited to join a crowd of people to join them for the beach. Hangover is quite clean and has an open social space for around 5€ per night in a dorm bed, but feels a bit unprofessionaly managed, which might not change the overall good experience. After checking in and unpacking I followed the guys. After checking the beach we went to Chile Bar, which might be the most well known bar in Moalboal, directly located at the water and offering music, pool and Beerpong basically all day. Thereafter we got diner at Nomad Bar. Rum Coke for P60 was insane and the Chicken Tikka Masala overwhelming - warmly recommended.

We ended up booking a private Karaoke (KTV) room at Binghs KTV Lounge for our group of 6 people for 10€/P600 for 2 hours. Karaoke is something you'll hear all around the Philippines when visiting. All day, every day - 24/7. After half an hour we got joined by around 10-15 more people until the small room was totally packed.

The next day after sleeping until noon, I went to the beach to snorkel and check out the famous Sardin run at the shores of moalboal. For P100 I rented myself the gear and jumped with my new FakeGoPro (29€ - Rollei) into the water. First thing to see was a big turtel which was eating around 20 meters from the beach in hip deap water. 30 meters further in where the riff droppes down, I saw the sardines and swam through them. The spectacle consists of thousands of sardines in huge schools, which are swimming in their formations and glittering in the sun. It was a great experience to see that, even if that was hard to catch on photos.

After getting some afternoon snack at Smooth, I went with Malene to join the others at White Beach, which is a bigger sand beach around 10min Tricycle ride north of Maoboal. If you like tanning at a sand beach, you might like the spot. Apart from that it was not to special and it's also quite busy.

After diner in a Greek restaurant, we decided to have a calm evening, chilling at the hostel.

Next day I joined a canyoneering trip around Kawasan falls, which is a great experience which you should definitly do when around. You will walk, swim, float, jump through the canyon and its many waterfalls during the 3-4h tour with possibilities to do an extra 1 km zip line in the beginning and also jump from a 7 meters cliff or from different roap swings. Overall a great experience especially with the right crew. On my trip I was in a group with an Australian couple, two German girls and a Spanish-Dutch couple plus one romanian girl from my hostel, all in there mid/end twenties. We had a blast, especially on our way back, when we got some beers and the jeepeny driver put the music on max for the 40min drive. This is when we decided to meet again in the evening at Chile Bar, ending up in a KTV room again - well worth it.

After a tasty Quinoa Salad in the morning of the next day at Smooth I left Moalboal in the direction of the more calm island of Siquijor.
