El cumpleaños of Samantha

Aktualisiert: 9. Feb. 2022

The 19th of January was a special day since it was Samantha's birthday. To enjoy it to the fullest, she took off work. After getting her a small Birthday cake with a candle in the morning, we went to the beach at 8 am, with the plan to go surfing before the Spanish class. Unfortunately, the Mexican 'opening time' of 8 am of the surf shop was probably more an information on the time before you shouldn't expect anybody, but more are rough idea or they were still on the old time zone (Sayulita changed their time zone only 12 years ago, to fit to the tourists' hotspots time and especially the airport around in Puerto Vallarta and minimize confusion). Since the water conditions were even though not perfect for beginners in the morning, we skipped that. During the morning Spanish session, we played a game called Lotería with Spanish vocabulary and exclusive which is similar to Bingo. Afterwards, we rent a car to drive up the cost.

Our first stop was San Francisco alias San Pancho which is 15min to the north of Sayulita. A small calm town, radiating hippie vibes and less tourism. Offering a long, clean beach which is less populated and in some places even no people are at the beach. In the northern part of the town, some villas and small but exclusive hotels are located including their own beach club called La Patrona Beach Club which is definitely worth a visit.

Afterwards, we went to Rincón de Guayabitos, but we only had a basic lunch there, because the city was not special at all and consisted only of two shopping streets along the coast. The only thing that you should do, if you have more time, is to go to Isla del Coral by boat to snorkel, which we were recommended.

On the way back, we ended up in Playa Los Venados in Lo de Marcos, which you can only reach by car and a small walk through a small piece of jungle, ending up on a lonely bay, that hasn't been touched by tourism yet. The pacific waves are strong, which should be considered when planning to swim. Apart from that, you will have an amazing calm time there and enjoy it a lot. We stayed until sunset and left afterwards to drive 30 minutes back to Sayulita.

Back in the hostel, a salsa evening was ongoing, where we picked up some people and went again to get street tacos. I decided to go to a nearby shop to get yogurt and a pastry because I had enough tacos at this moment - Tacooverload. We spent the rest of the evening, getting ice cream, listening to street music, and joining again the event in the hostel. Afterwards, a DJ was playing in the next courtyard until late at night, which was a really nice location for that, but kept awake most of the people in our hostel until 4 am in the morning.

The next two days flew by very quickly, having the daily routine of morning classes, some lunch, surfing during high tide, and afternoon Spanish classes.

On Thursday we got to know Dominic whose father has a lot of farmland in the south of Puerto Vallarta and I went out with him this evening to visit some bars.

During my Spanish lessons, I got a book in Spanish language from Juan, which I started to read. It was in really easy language, but it still felt like a huge success for me to be able to read and understand the storyline.

On Friday we went surfing with a bigger crowd of people. Rachel, a stewardess we just met, who had only one lesson up to this point as well, Petra who just did her first lesson the day before as well as Samantha and Amadeus. I got a kinda tiny soft board this time, which I loved and which I was able to handle very well. That's why I stayed for two hours in the water until I went back for a beer in the hostel pool. During these days, we had our last lunch at Naty's, last Tacos al Pastor (the kebap-like thing) in Sayulita, and went for a good and low-priced pizza at Pizza Venezia. You can choose out of a huge set of toppings as many as you want for 99 $ and you were asked to bring your own beer or wine since they only sell soft drinks. These are enough reasons to share some more food pictures, to make you all starving before we leave Sayulita. Also recommendable for tasty breakfast bowls is Orangy Smoothies located on the main street, next to the car rental.
